Immersed in this heritage, he became enchanted by tea pets—miniature sculptures that develop a jade-like luster through tea infusion, embodying the soul of Chinese tea culture. For centuries, Yixing’s artisans refined techniques like engraving and clay-painting, elevating purple clay teapots into timeless art.
Witnessing economic downturns and industry turmoil, Keun saw skilled artisans struggle: cheap imitations flooded markets, original creators faced bankruptcy, and young generations abandoned traditional crafts. The survival of techniques honed since the Ming Dynasty hung in the balance—a cultural erosion threatening Yixing purple clay, Jingdezhen porcelain, and other regional treasures.
