Persimmon-Shaped and Painted with Flowers and Birds Teapot Fully Handcrafted With Yixing  Golden Duanni Clay

1. Material & Craftsmanship

The teapot is entirely handcrafted from traditional purple clay “golden segment” mud. Its surface presents a warm yellowish tone with a fine natural granular texture. The body and lid fit together precisely, especially where the knob connects seamlessly to the lid, highlighting expert workmanship. The purple clay offers excellent breathability and heat retention, enhancing the tea’s aroma. With long-term use, it becomes even more smooth and lustrous.

2. Shape Design

  • Overall Shape: The teapot is round and full, well-proportioned, with a short spout that ensures smooth pouring and a curved handle that fits the hand comfortably.

  • Lid Design: The lid features a three-dimensionally sculpted persimmon calyx knob. The textured veins in dark brown are vividly detailed, imitating the natural form while making it easy to lift. The inlaid lid fits perfectly, demonstrating superb craftsmanship.

  • Bottom Design: The base is entirely hand-pressed (“na di”), a complex technique that realistically recreates the shape of a persimmon.

3. Symbolic Meaning

The persimmon calyx-shaped knob and the red persimmon and green leaf patterns on the body carry a symbolic meaning. “Persimmon” (shì) sounds like “affair” (事) in Chinese, symbolizing “everything goes well” (事事如意) and “eternal smoothness” (万世顺遂). The flowers, birds, and leaves around the body represent natural vitality and prosperity. The full, round shape symbolizes a fulfilling and complete life. It feels comfortable to hold and is perfect for handling and appreciation. The design blends traditional cultural meaning with artistic beauty, offering both practical use and auspicious blessings.

4. Usage Experience

The teapot is compact and medium-sized (referring to hand-held scale), making it ideal for brewing oolong, pu-erh, and other full-bodied teas. Whether used for quiet solo tea sessions or social gatherings, it enhances the tea atmosphere and reflects the owner’s taste.

5. Occasion & Value

Paired with a dark tea mat, wooden tea tray, and celadon tea set, it creates an elegant and classic tea space. This teapot is not only a practical tool for daily tea brewing but also an auspicious collectible. It is suitable for tea ceremony appreciation, holiday gifts, or study display, conveying the aesthetic of an Eastern lifestyle.

Yixing Gold Clay(Duanni)
1. Introduction

The clay has large particles and a loose structure, giving the teapot a distinct double-porosity that allows smooth air circulation. With long-term use, it gradually reveals its charm and shows remarkable transformation, making it an excellent choice for teapot maintenance. It brews tea with a rich and smooth taste, highly praised by users. In the past, due to lower clay formulas and kiln temperatures, Duan clay teapots were prone to "spitting black." Nowadays, high-temperature kiln technology ensures a firing temperature of up to 1150°C, achieving full crystallization and completely eliminating blackening.

2.Firing Temperature

Approx. 1150°C

3.Shrinkage Rate

Approx. 13%

4.Origin

Dingshan, Huanglong Mountain, Yixing, Jiangsu Province

5.Clay Characteristics

Strong sandy texture, abundant particles, solid body, excellent breathability, stable color after firing

6.Difficulty

High shrinkage rate requires strict control of shaping and firing techniques

7.Features

Rich colors (beige, brownish-green, camel-gray, golden-yellow, etc.), distinct layered texture, prominent double-porosity structure, becomes smoother with use, noticeable polishing effect

8.Tea Brewing Properties

Excellent breathability enhances tea aroma and heat balance; smooth texture fully activates tea quality, especially suitable for fermented and semi-fermented teas

9.Recommended Teas

Pu-erh, Tieguanyin, semi-fermented teas, dark teas, lightly roasted oolong teas, green tea, Longjing, black tea, etc.

Teapot Seasoning and Maintenance

1. Seasoning Method

1. Cleaning

Remove any dust or impurities from inside and outside the teapot and its components. Rinse the teapot thoroughly with hot water to warm it up.

2. Initial Brewing

Brew your preferred tea in the pot and pour the tea liquor over the exterior. When the temperature is high, the subtle pores of the teapot expand slightly, allowing moisture to appear on the surface. Gently wipe the body with a tea maintenance cloth while it is still warm. Repeat this entire process at least three times. Note: The tea brewed during this step is not suitable for drinking.

3. Drying

After several rounds of brewing, the “fire energy” (raw kiln feel) of the teapot will be largely reduced. Rinse the pot with clean water and let it air dry completely. It is then ready for daily use.

Tip:

If a strong chemical odor is detected after boiling or if the color of the pot fades, it may indicate a chemically dyed teapot. This method can help identify authentic Zisha clay.

2. Maintenance Principles

  1. Before brewing, moisten the outside of the pot with warm water before adding water inside—a practice known as “rinsing the pot.”

  2. After use, wipe the exterior with a soft cloth to keep it dry. Avoid leaving tea liquid inside to prevent residue buildup, which may affect the pot’s appearance.

  3. Allow the teapot to “rest” for 3–5 days after a period of use, ensuring it dries thoroughly.

  4. Keep the pot away from oily or dusty environments to maintain the porous structure of the clay.

  5. Follow the “one teapot for one type of tea” rule to prevent cross-flavoring.

  6. Never use detergents or chemical cleaners, as they can damage the natural luster of the teapot.
